George Weyerhaeuser Sr., the former CEO and president of the Weyerhaeuser Company and great-grandson of Frederick Weyerhaeuser, died on June 11 at the age of 95.
“No one has had a greater influence on the formation of South King County in the last 100 years than George Weyerhaeuser,” said Peter von Reichbauer, a Federal Way-based King County councilman.
George Weyerhaeuser moved on to Yale University and worked for the company in various capacities until he was chosen CEO and president in 1966, a position he held until 1991.
He also served as chairman of the Board of Directors until 1999.
The Weyerhaeuser Company, one of America’s leading forestry firms founded by Weyerhaeuser’s great-grandfather, addressed Weyerhaeuser’s death in a June 14 news release.
According to the corporation, he oversaw a significant amount of expansion, including many important timberland acquisitions.
