Jennifer Lawrence in red peplum Dior at the Oscars: stunning or understated?

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence wore Dior to the Oscars last night. We all knew she’d wear Dior. The challenge was to see how Dior would dress her considering she fell last year while thinking about cake. In the end, Jennifer ended up wearing a red, peplum-ed look similar to Charlize Theron’s Oscar dress from last year. There’s no way JLaw could fall in this dress, right? Well, she still tripped. 10 seconds after she stepped onto the red carpet, she fell all over the place. You can see the GIF of that moment here.

Luckily, Jennifer did not fall onstage while presenting the Best Actor award to Matthew McConaughey. JLaw kept her words simple and unmemorable, and I think that was the point with this Dior dress too. This dress is JLaw’s attempt to fade into the background while still attending the required functions. She was so relieved when Lupita Nyong’o won Best Supporting Actress! The two did playfully wrestle with the statuette backstage.

Jennifer’s Neil Lane jewelry was gorgeous, and she wore her necklace backwards like she did last year. Her makeup was really off though. Under the stage lights, JLaw’s makeup looked made her look like she’d been in the tanning bed and wearing goggles for way too long. The eyeliner was too severe and made her eyes look too small. Maybe she’s really trying to disappear.

JLaw switched outfits for the Vanity Fair afterparty. Instead of seizing the moment to wear Calvin Klein, she chose this stiff Tom Ford dress. Ugh. This looks like something Kris Jenner would wear. The dress also includes sheer panels on the side (see gallery) so you can see that JLaw isn’t wearing any underwear.

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen went for a romantic dream in Monique Lhullier. I love the pattern on this dress, and this was a full on gown. The fabric looked shiny and soft, and the cut of the bodice was just right. Chrissy was so excited to be at the Oscars, so she went all out. You could also see her tweeting from the red carpet. Soft romantic waves and a berry-pink lip added to the romance.

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde wore black Valentino with a distinguishing white panel in the back. Livvy is about two months away from giving birth, and it’s so hard to dress a bump on the red carpet. She looks gorgeous and sophisticated. The dress seems a little boring from the front, but the backless detail and panel added some fun.

Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick wore J. Mendel, and I think this dress was a little too sophisticated for her. This is certainly an ornate and interesting look, and I think Anna may have been able to “old” it up by wearing some glamorous waves. This is a gorgeous dress, but I don’t think it was right for Anna.
