Joel Embiid was born in Yaounde, Cameroon in a military family. He is the eldest child of Thomas Embiid and Christine.

Joel was a keen volleyball and soccer player in his childhood. His parents wanted him to become a doctor.

He had an intention to play volleyball in Europe but soon started playing basketball at the early age of 15 inspired by NBA star Hakeem Olajuwon.

Embiid started playing basketball really well and his talent was noticed by Cameroonian NBA player Mbah Moute. The next year, the young basketball player moved to America where he started playing basketball at Montverde Academy.

After that, he went to play basketball at Christian Academy, The Rock School in Florida where he delivered an impressive performance.

The best part of his career was being selected for NBA by The Philadelphia 76ers which he could not debut due to his foot injury for 2 seasons.

Joel Embiid is currently dating a Brazilian model Anne De Paula who he first met in 2018 through a common friend in New York.

Anne recalled meeting Joel for the first time saying they didn’t talk much that night but their beautiful friendship started blossoming.

The model said that they both had a lot in common; both spoke French, loved soccer, and had hoped to start a family in the future.

Paula said:

“We FaceTimed every day for a while. … He just has this personality where he wants to motivate you. His friends, his family and now with Arthur — he pushes all of us to be the best of ourselves. That’s the type of person you want to have around.”

In 2020, the couple welcomed their first child together and named him Arthur.
